Trumpism's most telling and distinctive moments – not its most important, nor cruelest, nor most hazardous, nor stupidest, but possibly its most revealing – came earlier this autumn. He has performed deeds countless times more severe – the existing assessment of fatalities from his cuts to foreign assistance stands at 600,000 and increasing, and recently a study projected his energy policies would result in fatalities another 1.3 million. The evident and straightforward truth that the Jesus of the gospels advocates for a kind of extreme compassion focused on the impoverished has consistently rendered the Christian faith rather a provocative belief system: attractive to the general public, but because of its inherent radicalness requiring to be controlled. In the 1950s it was contained by dilution – Protestantism was so widespread that it basically baptized the status quo.
A Conflict for the Highest of Us
So I have been inspired to see the persistent defiance to Trump develop over the last twelve months.
