The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Frustration About Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its size classifications for female and kids' apparel failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Updates
Earlier, the sizing featured one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The service features exceeding 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
